I fondly recall entering the Brooks Brother’s flagship store on Madison Ave with my grandmother to be fitted for my first suit at the ripe age of 9. The slick salesman, donning a 3 piece suit and nearing 70 years old, told me I could “model that suit.” Whether or not he was being genuine I’ll never know, but what I do know is that Brooks Brothers has been synonymous with classic American Menswear for the better part of the past two centuries. They’ve had a myriad of collaborations with other brands ranging from Sperry Topsider to Junya Watanabe but it’s their relationship with Movado that is particularly appealing to us watch nerds.
Movado made a handful of different watches for Brooks Brothers; this particular example is a solid 14k gold Kingmatic HS 360 Sub-Sea. What I find especially appealing about this model is the absence of Movado anywhere on the dial. It has been fully replaced by Brooks Brother’s iconic golden fleece logo. This watch is in exceptional original condition and dates to about 1970. It features a textured silver dial, automatic movement and date complication. We slapped it on a pumpkin handmade Good Evening strap which gives it a classic preppy look. Additionally included in the sale is an original vintage advertisement for this exact model clipped from a magazine from 1969. It really doesn’t get much cooler than that.
